Thats what is needed to be changed first, to give all people equal access to resources - is major aim of RBE! And also see this ted/talks/richard_wilkinson.html - after some level when basic needs met, increase of consumption doesnt increase happiness, it can be only increased by more equal distrubution of resources in the world, and spending them on worthy aims, and the worthiest aim, basis of our long-term survival - is propagation of all CONSTRUCTIVE diversity of Earths biosphere to other worlds - fully terraforming & inhabiting other planets. Restriction of access to resources is root of most destructive behavior, as Jacque Fresco well explains. When access to resources is very unequal (by any criteria), most of them are wasted on luxury & military to force unequal & stupid distribution, which prevents us from Space exploration & proliferation. Stars, like people, born, live, and die, and Sun is estimated about 5 billion years left, after what it will reach in size current Earth orbit, throw off its crown, burn everything in solar system, and after - become White Dwarf en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formation_and_evolution_of_the_Solar_System with so few light power, that even remained planets will present no interest for life - becase Mother Star is main source oe energy for any known planet. But even before it, any high-organised life will be destroyed several times by colliding a huge asteroid, like it already happened during Earth history about 5 times - if not to overcome borders to take measures. And even before that, if we will not be in time to form RBE - we are much likelly to be destroyed with military and/or ecological disaster, caused by inequality.
