That’s The House that Built Me in the background. That’s the 77-year-old Dad that Built Me in the foreground - on his new bicycle. He bought it at a flea market he attended last month with his brother Gary. “Heck it was so cheap, I couldn’t pass it up,” he told me. No regard to age 77 buying a bicycle. Instead, only shining light on the bold common sense logic he’s famous for. “Gotta keep moving,” he says often. And he does. A weekly list of activities that includes push mowing lawns, walking in his golf league, plumbing duties, landscaping efforts for those in need, the list goes on. Between puffs of his pipe and an occasional conversational hell or damn, he’s likely to tell you he has no use for riding mowers or golf carts. Truth is, i’m a jockey of my Mac’s keyboard, but taught well by a plumber/steamfitter in work boots, and his words still motivate me. For that, and his longevity, I’m soulfully grateful. And mostly, may we all be reminded of a scripture he quotes often, Luke 12:22.“Therefore I tell you, do Not worry about your life.”
