The 0.001% ruling class is dependent on the 99.999% general population to sustain its excessive profits and power. The ruling class feels so powerful that they could ignore the basic human rights of the general public, treating the general public as obedient and gullible slaves. The ruling class defines and interprets the law, control the mainstream media & major institutions to maintain absolute control over the public. There is still a significant portion of the general population who believes that following orders and supporting the oppressive regime is the safest and most correct & beneficial way to go. Some truly believes in authority, no matter how oppressive, deceptive and corrupt the ruling regime is. The most exploited and disadvantaged ones are usually led to believe, by the government propaganda machinery, that those who peacefully resist the regime are “violent”. Even within the police force, there are resentments towards exploitations and bullying by power abusers from the top. But the frontline police dare not speak up, since it is difficult for them to find a more secured job elsewhere. Besides, police are trained to be obedient and prejudiced against any protestors. It is hard for the police to imagine that people have the right to disobey illegitimate authority. The most exploited and disadvantaged ones usually are not aware of an alternative system - the possibility of a more equal and just system. A portion of the middle class still criticizes those who peacefully resist the illegitimate ruling regime as rocking the boat. Interestingly, they are also the ones who most want to and plan to abandon HK. There is no true loyalty amongst members of the ruling party. They are mainly based on instrumental relationships and their mutually-binding secret pact of power abuse and corruption records. And there are people who are willing to do anything for anyone so long as they got paid. Illegitimate regime is highly dependent on those who still remain underneath to support them, so as to perpetuate their overt and covert violence & exploitations against those who disobey and even those who blindly obey. To the ruling party, those who work hard to demonstrate their loyalty to the ruling regime are just disposable pawns.
