The 163rd episode of The Simpsons was titled The Springfield Files. This one was a real event at the time and does manage to hold up throughout the years. The opening narration as well as segments throughout the show are done by Leonard Nimoy. Most of the time, a guest voice is honestly better when they are playing an actual character rather than a version of themselves. Nimoy manages to deftly buck that trend. The other guest stars are David Duchovony and Gillian Anderson playing their X-Files characters Mulder and Scully. At the time, The X-Files was actually Foxs bigger hit and now it is kind of a pop culture footnote if you happen to watch this episode. Simpsonized Mulder and Scully are almost mor fun than the real versions. The main plotline concerns Homer seeing a slender alien and no one believing him (except of course, the government who sends out the X-Files crew). I love the line up which includes characters such as Chewbacca and Marvin the Martian. They had permission to use none of them by the way. The alien turns out to be Burns emerging from a secretive longevity chamber. The great part is that Chewbacca is in the crowd while they discuss whether aliens exist. Classic. The chalkboard gag is The truth is not out there. The couch gag is that the family all comes in on jet packs and Marge catches Maggie as she is doing loop de loops.
