The 16th International Neuropsychoanalysis Congress PLASTICITY AND REPETITION (AND OTHER TOPICS) University of Amsterdam, 9-12 July 2015 neuropsa.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=96%3Aamsterdam-congress&Itemid=216 In psychoanalysis we create conditions for change. Successful treatment leads to many changes - in defenses, representations of self and other, and much more. Given the recent investigation of plasticity in neuroscience, what can we say today about the mechanisms of change in psychoanalysis? And how might this advance our clinical work? On the other hand, optimism about plasticity runs the risk of underplaying what analysts also know: personal mental characteristics are actually remarkably durable and tenacious. What can we say today about these counter-mechanisms to change: mental fixity and rigidity? Our 2015 congress theme Plasticity and Repetition [and other topics] will create space for consideration of this fundamental duality: the potential for change and the limits of change. We welcome proposals for presentations and symposia on this broad theme, from an experimental or clinical perspective. However, proposals on all other topics of relevance to neuropsychoanalysis are also welcome (see below). with Cristina Alberini and François Ansermet THE CALL FOR PAPERS: You are invited to submit abstracts for research presentations, posters, and symposia which have an explicit psychoanalytic or psychodynamic component, and meet one of the following criteria: a) an explicit neurobiological aspect, such as brain damage, brain measures, or pharmacological treatment; b)some direct link to a neuroscientific or neuropsychoanalytic body of thought; or c) psychoanalytic case presentations that can be discussed from a neuropsychoanalytic perspective by outside discussants. Studies related to the theme of the conference are particularly encouraged, but presentations on any topic are welcome. All Abstracts should contain the following information: Title Names of all authors, with institutional affiliations and credentials (e.g., M.A., Ph.D., M.D.) A brief bio of the presenting author Introduction, Methods, Results, and Conclusions (400 words maximum, not including title and author information). For symposia (duration 2 hours): Symposia should have either 4 presenters, or 3 presenters and one discussant. Submissions should include abstracts for each presentation, structured as above. In addition, the submission should include a brief overall summary of the focus of the symposium (200 words maximum) and a brief bio of each speaker (3-4 lines of text). Abstracts are due by 1 February; please submit your abstracts by clicking here; you will receive a receipt and a reference number, and notification of acceptance status will be made by end of February.
