The 17th Night of the month of Ramadhan It is an extremely blessed night. On this night the Islamic army confronted the army of infidels at Badr. The battle of Badr was fought on this day in which the Almighty bestowed victory to the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.s.) against the polytheists, and it was the greatest victory for Islam. That is why the scholars have stated that one should fast, give Sadaqah, thank Allah, and perform Ghusl and other worship acts, which are also meritorious during the night. The writer says that according to narrations of the night of Badr, the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) asked his companions that which of them would go the well of Badr and get some water so that all of them could quench their thirst? The companions fell silent and none had the courage to volunteer except Amirul Mo-mineen (a.s.) who picked up the water skin and left in search of water. He reached the well in the dark of the night. The well was also quite deep and pitch dark. He did not even have a bucket with which he could draw out the water. Thus he climbed down the well and filled the water skin and taking it he began to return to the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.). All of a sudden a strong wind began to blow and he sat down. When the wind slowed down he started to move. Again a storm ensued and he sat down. When it subsided he began moving but the third time again the wind was so strong that he had to wait through it. At last he reached the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.s.) who said, "Abul Hasan, you took quite a long time? Ali (a.s.) said, "0, Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.s.)! Thrice I had to face a strong wind and I was shuddering. Therefore I had to wait for it to subside. The Prophet (s.a.) asked him, "Do you know what it was?" "The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.s.) knows better," replied Ali (a.s.). The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, "The first time it was Jibraeel who had come with a thousand angels to salute (Salam) to you. After this Mikaeel came with one thousand angels and he was (also) saluting you. Then Israfeel came with a thousand angels and they all saluted you. All of them had come today to help us."
