The 1980s arcade will be for the near future what the 1950s malt shop was to the recent past: a lovingly recreated space celebrating collective nostalgia. Unless trends change, it will be the last fad of its kind. Arcades declined in popularity because people were playing video games in their homes. In general, life has turned sharply away from public to private experience. There wont be another retro-revival hangout, because there are no more communal hangouts.
