The 1982 world cup, saw arguably the greatest midfield of all time - TopicsExpress

The 1982 world cup, saw arguably the greatest midfield of all time , or rather the most wonderful midfield of all time take field in the Brazilian colours. Zico, Socrates, Falcao, cerezo and Eder - the free flowing street football made into an art. Zico and Socrates, neddless to say , the standouts among them. In the first round, they kicked aside whoever and whichever team that went up against them , producing the most mesmerising football. In the second group format, which was equivalent to the modern quarterfinal format wherein only the top team from the four groups , qualify for the semis, Brazil was drawn in the true group of death alongside Argentina and hosts Italy. Affter Kicking aside life-long rivals Argentina , 3-1; Brazil lost 3-2 against eventual winners Italy, in the greatest match ever in a world cup. Football pundits around the world labelled it as a day when football lost. That team, that hell of a team, remains, to this day, the GREATEST TEAM NOT TO WIN A WORLD CUP . Not me, the football world laments so.. Just to prove the point , sit back and watch this video ; how arguably the most wonderful team of all time performed , and took the game to another level. #WORLDCUPFEVER. 8 DAYS TO GO.
