The 1992 World Series was between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Atlanta Braves. I was a brand new assistant professor that year and I was watching the first game with some of the full professors. One of the more erudite of the group, the one with the beard, asked which team I was for. I said in mock outrage, well, Im an American, so who do you think? He looked at me in his best gotcha face, they are both from America. I told him that he knew what I meant and even the Canadians refer to us as the Americans. Of course, I was ridiculed. The next day, the headline on the front page of the newspaper, was a quote from the Canadian prime minister, This is not America! Dont mess with me, I am charmed.
