The 2013-14 budget and a program to reduce energy costs are two topics of the Olathe Board of Education meeting which starts at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1 at the Education Center, 14160 Black Bob Road. The board will hold a public hearing on its 2013-14 budget at 7 p.m. and later take action on that proposed budget. Two presentations are planned for the meeting: an overview of summer conference, summer school, summer social studies project, and advanced placement summer institute; and an overview of how a company called Cenergistic could help the district manage its energy costs. Three business partners will be recognized for their support of the district, and the Olathe Northwest High School FIRST Robotics team will be honored as the state champion and national qualifying team. The board also plans a special recognition of its past president, Amy Martin. A consent agenda of routine matters as well as a handful of contracts, bids and agreements will be handled. The board will also take action on the Professional Council policy revision/negotiated agreement, issuance of school bonds, Board of Education committee assignments, and board Site Council assignments. Future action items include board policy revisions, changes in the way that district and school administrators are appraised in 2013-14, a student trip, replacing vehicles at the high schools, and a request for proposals from construction managers for elementary school renovations. An executive session is planned to discuss personnel matters and employer-employee negotiations. The complete agenda and supporting documents are available at boarddocs/ks/olathe/Board.nsf/Public.
