The 2014 Boxing season got off to a great start for the club with Hillary Costello winning the female Lightweight title at the National Intermediate Novice Boxing Championships in Dublin in January. The club hosted their first Tournament of 2014 at Thomasins Lisselton on Saturday the 25th of January. Smallholdings ABC (Select) from London and Cashen Vale (Select) provided the competition on the night. The Munster Boys and Youths Boxing Championships 2014 were entrusted to the Cashen Vale club. Boxing commenced on Sunday the 16th of March and continued on 22nd, 23rd, 29th and 30th of March in the Ballybunion Community Centre. The high point of the event was our hat trick of Provincial titles. On Saturday afternoon June 28th , JDs Hostelry in Ballybunion was the venue for the first open air boxing tournament of 2014. DJ’s beer garden was transformed into a full-size boxing arena for the Marque covered Event. The Mayor’s of Ballybunion Joan O Connor was on hand to welcome the boxers and their supporters from the Manchester/ Burnley area of the UK to Ballybunion. A second Open-air Tournament was held on Sunday the 27th of July in JD’s to accommodate the numerous clubs/boxers wishing to come and enjoy a happy weekend in Ballybunion. Olympic Silver medallist Kenny Egan and his club Nealstown ABC gloved up against a Cashen Vale selection in Thomasin’s, Lisselton Cross on Saturday night the 4th of October. A squad of 15 Boxers + Officials arrive in Kerry from Dublin for the Cashen Vale Club show. The Dublin squad were accompanied by family members and friends, and they were accommodated in Ballybunion over the weekend. After a very successful 2014, it is important to ensure that we have obligations in place to maintain that tempo in 2015.The club is committed to fulfilling a return show with the Smallholdings Boxing Cub in London in February.
