The 2014 INTERNATIONAL WRITING PROGRAM The U.S. Embassy in Sana’a is pleased to announce the 2014 INTERNATIONAL WRITING PROGRAM. This 10 weeks program (starting in August and ending in September) intends to bring together a wide range of international and U.S. writers to examine current trends in literature at the University of lowa in lowa City. The participants will present their work to local audiences, work with student translators, and participate in classes and workshops. The program will help these participants bring their countries literary works to a wider audience and learn more about American literature. The 2013 program will also feature increased opportunities for writers to participate in optional collaborative projects with artists from other disciplines, including music, theater, and dance. This all-expenses-paid program will host established and emerging creative writers who have published at least one book and possess sufficient proficiency in English to benefit from an extended U.S. program. Candidate Description and Qualifications: Candidates must be: Creative writers (poems , prose, fiction & nonfiction stories, feature journalism, cultural commentary, biography, or memoirs) who have published at least one book. A Yemeni Citizen and holder of a valid passport. Able to demonstrate proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking). Able to engage and thrive in an atmosphere that brings together different kinds of people and views. A complete application will include the following materials: Application form (attached). A writing sample of 10 -15 pages in English or translated into English. CV/Resume.
