The 20th International Day (August 9th) of World Indigenous Peoples opening ceremony held today at UN Head Quarters in New York. This years theme is Bridging the gap: implementing the rights of indigenous peoples The International Day of the Worlds Indigenous People (9 August) was first proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in December 1994, to be celebrated every year. The date marks the day of the first meeting, in 1982, of the UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations of the Sub-commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights. The first World Conference on Indigenous Peoples will be held on 22-23 September 2014. विश्वभर अहिले झन्डै ३७ करोड आदिवासीहरु रहेकाछन्। सन् १९९३ डिसेम्बर २१ को संरासं जनरल एसेम्बली बैठकको रिजोलुसन 48/163 ले सन् १९९५-२००४ लाई अन्तरराष्ट्रिय आदिबासी दसक International Decade of the Worlds Indigenous People (1995-2004) घोषणा गरेको हो भने सन् १९९४ डिसेम्बर २३ को संरासं जनरल एसेम्बली बैठकको रिजोलुसन 49/214 ले हरेक बर्षको अगस्ट ९ लाई विश्व आदिवासी दिवस (International Day of the Worlds Indigenous People) मनाउने निर्णय गरेको हो। सन् २००४ डिसेम्बर २० को संरासं जनरल एसेम्बली बैठकको रिजोलुसन 59/174 ले दोश्रो अन्तरराष्ट्रिय आदिवासी दशक २००५-२०१५ Second International Decade 2005-2015 पनि घोषणा गरी सकेको छ। संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघीय आदिबासी सम्बन्धी स्थाई मन्च Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) को स्थापना सन् २००० को जूलाई ८ मा संघको आर्थिक तथा सामाजिक परिसद United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) को रिजोलुसन 2000/22 बाट गरिएको हो। यसको सचिबालयको गठन चाँही सन् २००२ को संघको जनरल एसेम्बलीद्वारा गरिएको हो।
