The 25 Days of Great Singers Day 13: Alison Krauss Alison - TopicsExpress

The 25 Days of Great Singers Day 13: Alison Krauss Alison Krauss is the kind of musician and singer we should all strive to be. She makes it all seem so effortless and never overdoes anything choosing to instead sing and play exactly that which is needed to make the best music. She is the most awarded singer and most awarded female artist in Grammy history and has 27 Grammy awards tying her with Quincy Jones (lofty company) as the most awarded living recipient. We could sing her accolades all day, but when its all said and done just listen. Listen to her and youll understand. Shes a brilliant fiddle player and songwriter who has the voice of an angel. Her tone is so clear and pure that I myself sometimes question if shes actually of this world. Yeah -- shes that good. Alison Krauss was born in Decatur, Illinois in 1971. She signed a record contract with Rounder Records at the age of 14 and released her first solo album just two years later. That was in 1987 and shes been going strong ever since. Shes played with everybody -- Dolly Parton, Ricky Skaggs, Jerry Douglas, Emmylou Harris, Kenny Rogers, Yo-Yo Ma, Nickel Creek, Gillian Welch (on the beautiful Ill Fly Away from the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack), Robert Plant, Elvis Costello, Sting, and even that fantastic turn on Phishs If I Could back in 1993. When You Say Nothing At All, Stay, That Kind of Love, Gravity, It Doesnt Matter, and my personal favorite Crazy As Me are all amazing and great examples of how truly wonderful she is. And shes not going anywhere anytime soon. For today Im choosing a collaboration she did with Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, and Mark OConnor on their Appalachia Waltz album. Here is Stephen Fosters Slumber My Darling.
