The 25 Days of Great Singers Day 14: Frankie Valli Ah, Frankie - TopicsExpress

The 25 Days of Great Singers Day 14: Frankie Valli Ah, Frankie Valli. We all know more than one of his songs and can sing along verbatim. And that unmistakable falsetto always lets you know its him. The man just had a great voice and despite being the very definition of Pop music hes stood the test of time and is still known to new generations. (It also doesnt hurt that Jersey Boys came into existence, but I digress.) Valli was born Francesco Stephen Castelluccio in case you had any doubt he was from New Jersey. He began his career in 1951 with a group that eventually became known as The Four Lovers. In 1959 Bob Gaudio joined the group and after a few changes it was renamed The Four Seasons and that is when they took off. The group became popular with a bunch of hits including Sherry, Walk Like A Man, Big Girls Dont Cry, Rag Doll, and December 1963 (Oh, What A Night). At this point Valli begin recording solo work as well. Wasnt an all too common thing for a group and a solo act to be in seeming opposition, but that is what happened. He continued to perform and finally reached major success with Cant Take My Eyes Off Of You. He may not have the gravitas of some of the others on this list, but he gets in purely on the strength of that head voice and the staying power hes had. The man made his Broadway debut in 2012 at the age of 78, for crying out loud! Heres Cant Take My Eyes Off Of You, my favorite.
