The 3rd best thing about being home? COOKING IN MY OWN KITCHEN!! The ACS Golisano Hope Lodge in Rochester is such a God send for cancer patients and caretakers that have to be away from home. They make every effort to welcome and assist us during our stay. Theres a genuine warmth and compassion from the volunteers and employees, volunteer groups offer ready made meals several nights a week(at no cost) , available activities, creature comforts, laundry, security, support and interaction with other guests even a full kitchen facility. I love to cook, my diet is odd(onion and garlic allergies) and require an ability to control the preparation of my meals. It makes for a touch of normalcy, less stress and financial burden to deal with for those of us with enough on our plates already. That said, nothing compares to having MY kitchen, my foods, spices and even a familiarity with the way a range top and pans work together. #3, seems arbitrary, but for me, surprisingly comforting after a week away from home.
