The 5 day music challenge Day Two: Well as I started to say - TopicsExpress

The 5 day music challenge Day Two: Well as I started to say yesterday, I was born a poor country boy . . . which is to say I started listening to country music when I was seven. It was then, additionally, that my father gave me a ukulele and gave me lessons. I started playing his guitar and learning the same chord’s forms on my own. Dad was mostly a folk song player--some country though I didn’t know the difference then. He started me on “Down In The Valley” and I would play along with him on my new ukulele. When I was twelve I took swimming lessons in Sodus Point. The neighbors (all the neighbor kids did the same) would drop us at the church where a school bus took us to the point and delivered us back. I loved being in town and often hung around eventually heading top my grandparent’s house to call home for a ride. On this particular day in 1966 my oldest cousin Dean (he was staying at our grandparent’s) invited me to his room and played me his new 45s. First single was The Troggs “Wild Thing”. I don’t even remember what the other record was anymore but I was to live “Wild Thing”. A couple of years later my friends Jim, Jim, Jim, and Rob were starting the first rendition of our band which eventually became Wizard. I started hanging in town at Ruth’s Restaurant or Honk’s playing pinball. Yeah that first hit of Rock ‘N’ Roll changed my life. Thanks Dean. youtu.be/Hce74cEAAaE
