The 64th Annual YMCA Youth in Government legislative session - TopicsExpress

The 64th Annual YMCA Youth in Government legislative session opened yesterday with a formal ceremony at the Hawaii State Capital – Senate Chambers, where new Youth Governor Kai Uyehara and 80 new student delegates from around Oahu were presented and sworn in by Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard. For 64 years, YMCA Honolulu has hosted Hawaii Youth and Government, an annual program where teens learn parliamentary procedures by electing their own governor, speaker of the house, senate president and delegates; draft their own bills and resolutions; then battle out the passage of these bills/resolutions in a mock 3-day legislative session. Activities for this year’s YMCA of Honolulu Youth in Government program began back in November when students elected their own officials and divided themselves to serve as delegates of the House of Representatives and Senate. They received training in the legislative process, bill drafting and parliamentary procedures. #Hawaii_YAG #YAG #YAG2015 #YouthAndGovernment
