The 682nd Radar Squadron operated the Mount Umunhum Tower. I was born in the house Im in today and watched this radar spin around atop Mt. Umunhum 24 hours a day. The hydrostatic bearing supported the radar which weighed 85 tons. The bearing would fail occasionally and the radar would get stuck. A day or sometimes two later it would start spinning again. I looked all over and cant find a picture of it at night at Christmas time. I have a video and I think some pictures of it when they put a star made out of Christmas lights on the base of the radar. Ill dig that up and post it : )
