The 73rd episode of the Simpsons is Brother From the Same Planet. After Bart is left by Homer at a soccer game despite multiple reminders (my favorite is the Shining redrum take trab pu kcip!), Bart feels that his relationship with his father is broken. For love and understanding, Bart pretends to be without a father and goes to Bigger Brothers where he meets Tom (voiced by Phil Hartman) who seems perfect in every way. When Homer finds out, he retaliates by getting his own little brother Pepi. When the four meet at a Bigger Brothers event, Homer and Tom have a fight worthy of Peter Griffin and the Giant Chicken. Homer ends up in the hospital and reconciles with Bart. Bart introduces Tom and Pepi who become brothers. It is a sweet episode that points out a re-occurring theme in the show. Homer often has the chance to walk away from his family occassionally for what might seem to be better, but never does. When it comes right down to it, as loose as the bonds between the Simpsons might seem, they always bind together. At one point George H.W. Bush said that we need more families like the Waltons and less families like the Simpsons. At some point, we might realize that we need both. The chalkboard gag is The Principals toupee is not a frisbee. The couch gag is a repeat with a revolving wall and an identical but empty sofa on the other side.
