The ACTIOM principle A- Accountability: enables a stronger self discipline from decision makers and paves the way for better governance. C- Citizenship: If speech and enquiry are not independent and untrammeled, it makes no difference under what form of government you live, you are a subject and not a citizen - Senator William E. Borah T- Transparency: Transparency means providing consistency in preserving the prevalence of general interest over personal and or small groups interest. In other words how was the tax payers money spent? I- Information: It is not because the government or municipalities have shown some form of transparency that the information provided should not be questioned. For example, do you know the budget of the main utilities in your country? Do you know how the funds are being spent? Have you questioned those numbers? O- Organizational balance: Without the appropriate control and verification measures quality governance cannot emerge. It is fundamental that governing bodies develop appropriate organizational structures to ensure that decisions are made in the interest of the population. M- Media involvement: In many developing countries, the media plays a strategic role in maintaining good governance principles by publishing mismanagement and or irregularities from decision makers. Africa is at a tipping point. The continent has leveraged on stronger media engagement in public affairs offering platforms for discussion and assessment on how the state and local governments are managed. With the internet, mobile phones and other social media, the continent is at a dawn of empowered citizenship and overcoming the challenges of isolation and misinformation.
