The AMBIVALANCE OF OFWS: Im checking in for my flight to Dubai - TopicsExpress

The AMBIVALANCE OF OFWS: Im checking in for my flight to Dubai and Im immersed in the OFWs ocean of ambivalence - the excitement to embrace the opportunities of overseas employment and the loneliness of being away from home. I was observing their eyes and i can read their anxiety of leaving home to give the family a better living. I overheard the bilin moments of parents to kids and spouses, as they hold the tears of sorrow and mask their sound with excited optimism that years are just few days away as if distance shouldnt matter. It made me think: sino mas malungkot? Yung umaalis or yung naiiwan? I asked one of them where she is going and how long will she be away. She smiled in denial that three years is a a thousand days away. Asked why she has to leave, she says she has not better choice. And then with sigh she said, if only i have similar opportunities here at home, i would not have to be away from my very young kids. She asked back the questions to me and when i said ill be back after 5 night she said, youre so lucky; i will start counting a thousand days and nights starting tonight. Then tears fell. I said, BE A TURTLE, WHEREVER YOU ARE BE HOME. -DrCarlBalita
