The AP U.S. History (APUSH) curriculum has been redesigned, and, as someone who taught APUSH for twenty-five years, I strongly support the changes. All told, I think the new curriculum should encourage teachers to emphasize depth over breadth of content, as well as allow teachers more flexibility in their approach to covering historical content. As a consultant for the College Board I will be part of the process of training teachers and helping them understand the changes that will be instituted during the 2014-15 school year. To get the process started, I have written an article that provides a “beginner’s guide” to the redesigned APUSH curriculum.
