The Abeokuta City Centre Project, being Championed by the Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led administration is a socio-economic generator that will draw world attention and attract international crowd to Ogun State, as it will offer opportunities for people to do businesses from all walks of life, both local and international. This was the submission today of the Lead Urban Designer/ Project Director for Urbanisma, Mohammed Hafiz, the Malaysian Consulting firmhandling the design of the Master Plan for the Abeokuta City Centre and the New Government City Project during an interview session shortly after taking the Ogun State Technical team through a rundown on the design and actualisation of Putrajaya, the adorable new administrative Capital City of Malaysia. Mr. Hafiz observed that the Abeokuta City Centre will be a major landmark that will not only be a source of inspiration and pride for the people of Ogun State, but will create ample opportunities for people to do businesses from all walks of life, both small, medium as well as attract large corporations, both locally and internationally. According to the Project Director, Project of such magnitude will greatly spur the economy of the state as well as inspire people of the community to move up and fill the gaps as the project has taken into consideration the interest of all manners of people, as well as various sectors of businesses. The convention centre, which is a major aspect of the project according to the Project Director will draw world attention and international crowd to make the city a commercially viable centre, as world class activities and programmes that will promote businesses would be organised at the centre. ‘’ We have looked at the whole programme as a socio-economic generator that will have a place for various sectors of businesses, and we are guided by the five cardinal programme of the government of Ogun State, which will give room for all the sectors to be fully integrated’’, he said. Mr. Hafiz stated further that the retail centre for instance will create spaces for small retail outlets as well as cater for big shopping malls adding that the first phase of the project will include, shopping mall, recreation centre, signature tower, offices, hotels and the likes as well as the convention centre which will help to kick start development. Speaking on the New Government City project, the Project Director observed that the project is another huge socio-economic generator that will give priority to Housing and industrial development. The New Government City Project as he said will be organised with complete infrastructure which will help to draw investors and make Ogun State a destination of choice for investors whether in the upstream or downstream industry, while it would also be a Housing destination to cater for the spill over from Lagos.
