The Abraham Funds Amnon Be’eri-Sulitzeanu is quoted extensively in todays New York Times article on the police shooting in Kafr Kana and its consequences. Reflecting on The Abraham Funds decade of work to improve police-Arab community relations: He said there had been a positive trend — very incremental and gradual, where there had been more dialogue between the police and local Arab leadership and a move away from the use of excessive force in many cases.From the Arab side, Mr. Be’eri-Sulitzeanu said, there is less outright rejection of a police presence in Arab towns and more of a demand for proper police services for the Arab community. Still, he said, there was and is a lighter finger on the trigger when it comes to the Arab population. He called for a genuine and transparent investigation of the killing of Mr. Hamdan and said, This is the moment where all the efforts of the last 10 years are put to the test.
