The Academy completely ignored one of my favorite films of 2014. “A Most Violent Year” may be the most beautiful looking film of the year, and it establishes writer/director, JC Chandor as one of the great young auteurs.. Oscar Isaac gives a subtle but still blistering performance as a “businessman” in 1970’s New York trying to avoid corruption. He is as close to Michael Corleone in “The Godfather” as you can get. It’s my favorite Jessica Chastain performance and Albert Brooks is terrific in the role of family consiglieri. See it.
