The Alabama baseball team moved to the top of the SEC & Western Division with another dramatic win last evening. The Tide clinched their weekend series with Ole Miss with a walk off extra inning win over the Rebels. Bama starter Justin Kamplain had all of his pitches working, frustrating the Ole Miss hitters, striking out 11 over 6 2/3 innings. The Tide jumped out early, with a pair of first inning runs. With 2 outs, Ben Moore collected his 4th hit of the series, followed by a Kyle Overstreet run scoring double. After Wade Wass reached on an error, Austen Smith smashed a run scoring double of his own. Kamplain looked as if these runs might hold up all night, fanning 6 Rebels in the 1st 4 scoreless innings. After retiring the first 2 Ole Miss hitters in the 5th, which included strike out 7, he fell the victim of a little bad luck, A high pop up on the infield somehow fell to the turf for a single. Another single & wild pitch put the Rebels on the board, cutting the Tide advantage to 2-1. 2 out mischief got to Kamp again in the 7th. After Justin fanned the first 2 Rebs, a pair of hits, a walk, & and error scored 3, giving Ole Miss their 1st lead at 4-2. Alabama tied the game at 4 in the 8th. Georgie Salem reached on an error to open the inning, Mikey White then singled to right & Moore walked to load the bases. Overstreet worked an RBI walk & Wass hit a tying sac fly, driving the game to the 9th, 4-4. Ray Castillo, who had replaced Kamplain in the 7th, blanked the Rebels in both the 8th & 9th, and when Alabama threatened but did not score in the 9th, the game moved to extra innings. The Rebels got an infield single & throwing error to put the go ahead run on board with no outs in the 10th. After a failed sac bunt attempt resulted in a strike out, a 1 out single plated a run & Ole Miss would go to the bottom half with a 5-4 lead. White worked a walk to leadoff the Bama 10th, then Moore was hit by a pitch, which put both the tying & winning runs aboard with no outs. Overstreet put down a perfect bunt which moved both runners into scoring position. Wass was then intentionally walked & when Smith hit a game tying sac fly, scoring White, the game was again tied, bringing freshman Hunter Webb to the plate. Webb fouled off a couple of 2 strike offerings before lacing a line drive single to left field. Moore running on contact, sped around 3rd and beat the throw to the plate, scoring the game winner & setting off another Tide victory celebration. Geoffrey Bramblett, who had entered the game in the 10th with 1 out, got the victory. Alabama improved to 18-8 on the year, 5-3 in the SEC. Jon Keller will be on the hill this afternoon at 1:05 when the Tide will go for the series sweep. Roll Tide!
