The American Flag is raised during the Dawn’s Early Light Ceremony at Fort McHenry National Monument, Md., Sept. 14, 2014, during the Star-Spangled Spectacular. The flag was flown at the exact time, date and place the original was flown 200 years ago during the War of 1812. The flag raising in 1814 signaled that Fort McHenry had withstood the bombardment from the British Navy, saving the City of Baltimore from capture and inspiring Francis Scott Key to pen the “Star-Spangled Banner.” More than 100 Marines from various units with II Marine Expeditionary Force, including 1st Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division and 2nd Marine Logistics Group based out of Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 464, Marine Aircraft Group 29, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing based at Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina descended on Baltimore to celebrate the Star-Spangled Spectacular in honor of the 200-year anniversary of The Star-Spangled Banner.
