The American people have, for the most part, decisively voiced their desire to see the defeat of ISIS. I personally think its not possible to defeat ISIS in that once theyre gone, itll create a vacuum that will give way to yet another radicalist regime. But if you want to defeat ISIS, guess what? Airstrikes arent going to do it. You need boots on the ground. Its that simple. And if you really want to defeat ISIS, you need to be very liberal with the rules of engagement, even more than we were previously. Meaning a lot of innocent people are going to have to die. If you put boots on the ground and restrict their ability to engage the enemy with violent speed and effectiveness, our troops will get bogged down into a stalemate of inactivity and needless casualties once again. The only way you defeat ISIS is by giving our soldiers free reign to use their discretion against targets free of international law. In other words, fight fire with fire. I doubt anyone wants innocent blood our soldiers hands. So you want ISIS gone, but you dont want boots on the ground either. I think thats fair, but as I said, the only way to defeat ISIS is by ground engagement. So let us ask ourselves -- is ISIS worth sending our men and women overseas to die? Is it necessary? Thats the question Americans need to ask themselves first and foremost. Or rather, ask yourself, would you go over there to fight ISIS? Because if you wouldnt, you shouldnt be so quick to send others to do so for you. I dont believe that it is.necessary nor worth it. Like any military action, it will create more problems than it will ever solve.
