The American people, reinvigorated by the “Tea Party”, are now demanding a smaller, less controlling government, a “Free Market” controlled economy, bills that are concise, clear and free of earmarks and pork (political bribes). The American people demand to be heard. We are a representative government where Congressmen are supposed to vote the will of the electorate. We are fed up with 2,000 page bills that aren’t read, uncontrolled spending and disregard of our wishes. Here is a suggestion of a method that would make sense of Washington. All Bills should have mandated rules: • Each individual part of the bill proposal must promote only one aspect of the bill. • No bill should be longer than the Constitution! About 11 pagees. • The author of each individual proposal must be published with the proposal. • Any individual proposal containing any earmark or pork must be discarded. Define an earmark as an expense in a bill that can in any way be considered a bribe. • Each individual proposal must state estimated cost including administrative costs. • Each individual proposal must have a sunset clause. If it does not meet the 3 month, 6 month and 9 month goals projected in the proposal, it must be defunded and eliminated. • The Constitutional compliance of each proposal must be addressed and verified. • All individual proposals must be publically posted for 5 days before any action can be taken. • Each individual proposal must have the above certified before being added to the bill. • The only way to alter a proposal after being certified will be to start the process over. • Any Congressman opposing the above must supply a written explanation to his constituents to be published in their district media. The Obama stimulus plans have prejudiced citizen faith in governmental economic remedies! Proposing another stimulus plan now, makes about as much sense as alleviating a black eye by leaning into a left hook! But, we need a real stimulus program. One with real criteria! One with cast iron rules! One that American’s can get behind and believe in! The Obama stimulus plan, healthcare plan and unending bailouts have prejudiced citizen faith in governmental economic remedies!
