The Anatomy of a Good Lift, Day 6, part 1: Meet the bar where it - TopicsExpress

The Anatomy of a Good Lift, Day 6, part 1: Meet the bar where it is pulled Yesterday, we talked about aggressively pulling your body DOWN under the barbell. Want to expand on that just a little bit: when you FINISH, you generate momentum on the barbell, and for a split second, it floats. In that split second, you must pull your body down under the barbell, but it is important to understand YOU MUST GO TO WHERE THE BAR IS PULLED. You will hear coaches say, the bar crashed on you, meaning once you pulled your body down under the barbell, you went straight to your rock bottom position and let the bar meet you there, or crash on you. Thats how you get bruises on your collar bones in a clean. Watch Janelle turn over both the snatch and the clean - the moment her barbell is floating, its almost in the same spot in both the snatch and the clean (just a bit higher in the snatch). She has to receive the snatch in a lower position so that her arms are fully locked out, but it still is a couple of inches above her very rock bottom position. In the clean, she does an outstanding job meeting the barbell exactly where it is pulled and riding it down to her ideal, rock bottom position. Meeting the barbell is all about timing. Practice meeting the barbell where it is pulled and do not settle for the barbell crashing on you. #crossfitweightlifting #crossfit @mikeburgener
