The Angry Republican Minority. Proverbs 22: 24 Make no friendship with an angry man, And with a furious man do not go, 25 Lest you learn his ways And set a snare for your soul. We have a crisis in the Republican party. The party is in threat of being co-opted by the Angry Right led by Tea Party stars like Allan West and talk radio hosts like Mark Levin. Instead of rational, intellectual and edifying speech where two opposing sides can walk away disagreeing without being disagreeable we instead have frequent debates that turn into a cage match of angry words. Debate is no longer who can put forth the best logical position or ideas but now it is who can land the best cut down, snide remark or Twitter sized quote that seeks to harm someone’s character. Its not long into a debate that someone calls into question another persons true motives and bona fide conservative credentials. This truth became painfully clear with the latest spending bill that passed the house. It did not take long for people in our party to take to social media and the radio waves to denounce the vote taken by their fellow conservatives. Like a scorned lover whos caught their partner in the act of infidelity the verbal assault against those who voted for the cromnibus came swiftly and violently. Allen West took to Facebook and said the following, “Not even a month out of the midterms, and Boehner has already surrendered the leverage we, the people handed the GOP. Why?” A sober attack by West’s own standards, but what followed from his groupies is what I term the Angry Minority. Speaking of Boehner, Stan Jones said, “Because somebody is threatening his life or his family. I suspect this is why hes such a drunk” James Frank Ferrelli Hes a total MORON and should be taken out of office anyway …… Jerry Gayhart Traitor scumbag Rene C Rodrigue This traitor needs to be hung . Why do people speak like this? Because their leaders do. Allen West quotes: West told reporters, “If Joseph Goebbels was around, he’d be very proud of the Democrat party, because they have an incredible propaganda machine.” In a July 2011 post on the website Red Country, West wrote, “I must confess, when I see anyone with an Obama 2012 bumper sticker, I recognize them as a threat to the gene pool.” Should we be surprised by the current level of vitriol from the Angry Republican Minority? Not when their own prophets on talk radio push this kind of speech daily. Mark Levin once told a female caller I dont know why your husband doesnt put a gun to his temple.” I do believe the Republican Angry Right to be a minority in our party as this most recent election cycle has proven. Most of the angry candidates who ran a primary election against the “establishment” Republican lost. Their tactics of questioning motives, name calling and making the claim that these Republicans were not true conservatives failed. Why? Because people like me have grown weary of the Angry Right and their tactics. We’ve grown weary and disgusted with attacks that just go over the top. Quotes like this lovely one from William Perry “Boehner took the BONER from Obama up the poop-chute and then gave him oral service to clean up!” Yup. We are tired of this kind of speech. If the GOP wants to continue winning elections we must reject this kind of speech and expel this cancer from the party. Am I am thrilled with the direction of our government and even our party as a whole? No. I understand the frustration toward the size and overreach of the federal government. However how we speak to one another does matter. How can we think we will persuade those with whom we disagree if we continue on the path of the politics of personal destruction? Of course not. Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger. If we are truly a conservative party which likes to point to Christ as our ultimate leader then we should really put into practice His words of wisdom. We should approach our opposition with love, kindness and patience and think before we speak. It is not only good for the hearer but also for our own soul. Proverbs 10:20 The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; The heart of the wicked is worth little. Proverbs 25:11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold In settings of silver. If we do not heed this wisdom we will continue to push away moderate and young voters and will have little chance to win the presidency again. I like being the party of the Elephant but if we are not careful with the Angry Right we could become the party of the JackAss.
