The Animals #1 - Dont Bring Me Down. Written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin. You can tell theyre starting to write not only for the British Invasion but also realizing there is a hip kind of change in the air musically that is leading us towards the Monterrey Pop Festival and groovy Peace and Love - no hippies back then yet - but coming shortly. Ive chosen to give you a version in mono of this song. The distorted guitar sounds good in mono. Its awful in stereo. It just sounds like a thin small buzzing musical mosquito panned to one speaker low in the mix. You will notice besides Eric - the great keyboards player Alan Price and the tall guy on bass - Chas Chandler - who would be the guy to, more or less, bring Jimi Hendrix to the worlds attention as his manager. I had never heard distorted guitar sound like this with its long decay EVER as a kid. Groundbreaking record. I remember tears rolling down my eyes watching The Animals perform this very song on Ed Sullivan when I heard the electric guitar distortion - back then it was just an effect used to gain attention and it hooked me with its sound. Nowadays, its not very special at al,l but back then a groundbreaking sound. youtu.be/ZNKEpsxyqfU
