The Apocalyptic Blues Hollywood sure has taken up the mantle - TopicsExpress

The Apocalyptic Blues Hollywood sure has taken up the mantle for the apocalypse. From Falling Skies to The Walking Dead, the world is in a real mess and no one has the ability to fix it. No electricity, no internet, no TV, no phones, no gas and no food…what are we to do? In addition, just look at the way they portray human nature. People stealing and killing over a can of tuna fish. Looting stores for who cares what. Kids with guns, old folks with shovels and young women with swords. Anything is a weapon and everyone is willing to use them in their daily struggle to look out for number one. There is no peace to be found anywhere, no one is in charge, and everyone is afraid. Get a load of this. In the last days there will be very difficult times. People will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. (2 Tim 3:1-5). Because, you see, there is really nothing new under the sun. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist or a history major to recognize that every generation past and the ones yet to come have all had to deal with the apocalyptic blues. We all deal with the struggle between good and evil. And trust me, there is plenty of both to go around. Now, I like these shows. I’m a serious junkie for end time stuff. However, when I leave it up to Hollywood to paint a picture of the future for me to look forward to, I can always count on one thing…they always paint a future with no hope. They only show the calamity, what caused it, who caused it and the struggle to deal with it. They rarely get around to a new beginning, and when they do it only offers a scenario that promises to end in another apocalypse, because they never address the need for human behavior to change. And therein lies the secret to the apocalypse…the need for human nature to change. Even people that reject God recognize the need for human nature to change. But their idea of repentance is limited to saving the planet rather than finding salvation for their soul. In the godless culture mentality, we humans (apparently mostly Americans, Christians and conservatives) have ruined everything. The sun is going black, the moon is turning red, and the sky is falling. And it’s all our fault. And oh yeah, we need the government to fix all of these terrible things that us bad people have done. Well I hate to tell you, this generation will also come and go, and these catastrophes and other variations of them will continue to plague mankind. And neither Hollywood nor the government will provide the hope or the reality of a new kingdom and a new earth. There is only one that can provide that and he has already promised to come and set things right. His name is Jesus. It is the name above all names. Salvation is only found in him and in no other. He is the only one that was dead and now is alive and promised to return again. He is the only one that gave the hope of a new kingdom and a new earth. He is the only one given the right to judge evil once and for all. His name, however hated and despised, is the name that at his appearing, every tongue will confess and every knee will bow and proclaim, that he is Lord. Maybe it’s time for the church to quit avoiding the preaching of these truths for fear of controversy and start telling the whole story again and again and again. That just might cure our apocalyptic blues. Randall Mooney
