The Aquatic Factors! *Noel Silva Paciente Castro Perocho FLHS"79 @ CFAS-BSF"83 ISCOF Saagay Branch,Sagay,Negros Occidental Did you know that? another stride made by the iloilo state college of fisheries towards a wider scope of community outreach was the conversion of Sagay Municipal High School into a branch school . the former Sagay High School located in Old Sagay,Sagay,Negros Occidental was converted into ISCOF Sagay Branch by virtue of Batas Pambansa Blg.359 and authorizing the appropriation of funds therefore,was approved on March 31,1983 by the late President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos. the reorganization of the school was empowered to the Ministry of Education,Culture and Sports with an appropriated amount of Php100,000 for its 1st year of operation.the appropriation was authorized by Batas Pambansa Bldg.131 and Batas Pambansa Blg.230 for the MECS.likewise,the Local Government Unit shared a funding support both in the operation and maintenance of the branch school. the main objective of opening the branch school was to introduce educational program and activities that were directed to fisheries development instituted by the Main Campus. the College assisted,provided and offered technological and vocational instruction and training in fisheries science,as well as short term technical or vocational courses in fisheries to meet the manpower needs of the region in particular and the whole country in general. the school operates as a branch in implementing a secondary fishery program following the revised curriculum.three areas of practical arts were offered:fishery arts,agricultural arts, and homemaking arts. the new College branch had a total new entrants of 437 students with 24 administrative staff and instructional personnel. the conversion of the school was made through the cooperative efforts and supports of the then Governor Alfredo Lacson Montelibano,Jr.; Mayor Alfredo Galicia Maranon,Sr. of LGU Sagay (now a component city of Negros Occidental);Dr.Elpidio M.Icamina,College President;Mr.Pepito B.Bedia,Jr.,Director of Extension and became the 1st Administrator of the branch school;as well as the faculty and staff headed by Ms.Priscilla L.Amar-Officer-in-Charge and the people of Sagay. in 1984,in addition to the Revised Secondary Fishery curriculum, Diploma in Fishery Technology (DFT) and Bachelor of Science in Fisheries were offered. ISCOF Sagay Branch is now a separate and independent institution known as Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology (NONESCOST).
