The Archives Association of Ontario is pleased to announce its Call for Papers for the 2014 Annual Conference to be held from May 28 to 30 in Oshawa, ON: Proposals are invited for examinations of this general topic: Party with your Archives! Enhancing Collective Memory in Times of Celebration 2014 will be a year of remembrance as Canada prepares to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War. Municipal, provincial, federal, corporate, community, and historical archives all contain records and important information that can be used to highlight, celebrate, and bring awareness to our collective memories. Could we celebrate communal anniversaries, important dates and people, and watershed moments without archives? How have you used items in your collection to honour an important person, place, or event in your community? Archives are integral to the preservation of our identities and ensuring that history is available, front and centre, during times of celebration and memorialization. Potential subjects for consideration for presentation include: • The role of archives in our collective memory • Archives & community • Partnerships with stakeholders and the community • Effective records management • Commemoration and celebration • Traditional and digital ways of sharing our message or story Come join the AAO’s newest chapter, the Durham Region Area Archives Group as we celebrate the 21st anniversary of the AAO, the 40th anniversary of the Regional Municipality of Durham, and the 90th anniversary of the City of Oshawa! The Conference will be held at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) in Oshawa, just 40 minutes from Toronto and accessible by public transportation. Proposals are invited in the form of complete sessions (1 hour) or individual presentations, and may be sent to: Sarah Ferencz and Becky George Program Co-Chairs, AAO 2014 [email protected] and [email protected] Please include presenter names, institutional affiliation and address, and a brief abstract of 250 words for complete sessions and 100 words for individual presentations. The due date of applications/submissions is NOVEMBER 30, 2013
