The Arsenal FC v Liverpool FC in 1997 @Fair play Robbie Fowler !! In the Arsenal v Liverpool in 1997 Liverpools Robbie Fowler pleaded with referee Gerald Ashby not to award a penalty against Arsenal goalkeeper David Seamen. 17 years ago saw one of the most remarkable moments in Premier League history when Fowler went down in the area under a challenge from England colleague David Seamen when Liverpool took on Arsenal @Highbury. Fowler burst onto a through ball and knocked the ball past the onrushing Seamen who appeared to bring down the Liverpool forward. Referee Ashby awarded a penalty but much to everyones surprise Fowler immediately admitted that he went over too easily pleading Ashby not to award a spot kick. Ashby was unmoved by Fowlers honesty and stuck by his original decision. Fowlers penalty was saved by Seamen but Jason McAteer rammed in the rebound. Liverpool went on to win the game 2-1. Clearly honestly didnt pay off on that occasion but Fowler was later given the UEFA Fair Play Award for his actions, but how many players would own up to diving nowadays. With simulation playing a major part in todays game and with players seemingly diving on a weekly basis it begs to question whether we will ever see such honesty from a footballer again..............
