The Asere clan of the Ga state has dissociated itself from calls from its acting Asere Mantse, Nii Amarkai III, that the Mayor of Accra, Alfred Vanderpuije, be dismissed. The Coalition of Concerned Ga Groups, Traditional and Opinion Leaders of Accra, called on the President on Thursday to dismiss the Accra Mayor he had left the offices of the Ga traditional council in a deplorable condition and had abused his office by misappropriating public funds. Speaking to Citi News however, one of the leaders of the Asere clan and former Mayor of Accra, Nat Nunoo Amarteifio, said Nii Amarkai III’s assertion were not supported by the clan. “We were particularly concerned about the participation of Nii Amarkai III who is the acting Asere Mantse. We are disturbed that without any consultation with us, he has put our good names into the cause,” he stated. Mr. Amarteifio further stated, “The city is divided enough as it is. The problems in the Accra chieftaincy issues are perilous enough as it is, without our adding this particular instance to it and that is why we wish to disassociate ourselves as the Asere Clan from the statement made by Nii Amarkwei III.” “He is not a king. He is someone who rules by some traditional conventions and to go out of his way to make comments that disunites the people that he’s supposed to be teaching the right way to have an input into how the clan is managed,”
