The Asr Prayer The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Whoever misses the Asr prayers (intentionally) then it is as if he lost his family and property.” [Sahih Bukhari] Mustafa Hulusi was a soldier who fought in the War of the Dardanelles (1915-1916), in the last few years of the Uthmani Khilafah. Since his early childhood he had taken care to offer his prayers on time. In deep respect and love for Allah (subhana wa ta’ala), he prayed even in the worst conditions of the battlefield. It had been months since the War of the Dardanelles had started. On one occasion, he noticed that the time for the Asr prayers would soon be over. He looked around himself to find a suitable place to offer his prayers and decided on a bush outside the trench. He told his brothers in arms who protested that he would get shot if he left the safety of the trench. Disregarding their protests, when he found an opportunity, he leaped out of the trench and rushed to the bush where he thought he would be safe from the enemy’s fire. Behind the bush, he stood up in utmost reverence and concentration to offer prayers. While he was praying, a cannon ball hit the trench which he had left minutes ago, and Mustafa Hulusi’s brothers in arms embraced martyrdom.
