“The Attitude of a Hypocite” (Matthew 23:1-12) “It is extremely important to know how God love sinners but hates hypocrites. In our text that we will study today found in the twenty third of the Gospel of Matthew we see how He rebuked the Pharisees and the Saducees because of their hypocrisy. Let’s us study the attitude of these religious leaders because Jesus called them a hypocrite’s people. “Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, the scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses seat, so do and observe whatever they tell you, but not the works they do. For they preach, but do not practice. They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on peoples shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. They do all their deeds to be seen by others. For they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces and being called rabbi by others. But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers. And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Christ. The greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” The first attitude that we see is; - “They love to seats in the on Moses ‘seat,” in other words they always wants to be on the top. Jesus encourages His disciples to observe and do whatever they tell them but not the works they do. Which will describe their second attitude; - “They do not practice what they preach.” - “They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on peoples shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger.” - “They do all their deeds to be seen by others.” This is the worst attitude of a hypocrite; they just do things to be seen by men. - “For they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces and being called rabbi by others.” Jesus concluded His teachings by saying; “The greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” Remember, God loves sinners but He hates hypocrites.”
