The Attributes of God Psalm 86:10 … “For you are great, and do wondrous things; you alone are God.” Are you struggling to understand who or what God is? Scripture describes his character and nature: Eternal; God has always existed and always will (Psalm 90:2) Creator (Genesis 1:1) Present in his creation; not part of his creation, but present in it (Jeremiah 23:23) One; God is the only God (James 2:19) Unchanging (Psalm 102:26-27) Foreknowing–God knows the future in advance (Isaiah 48:3) Omnipresent–God is everywhere, constantly (Psalm 139:7-12) Omniscient–God knows all things; nothing can be hidden from him (1 John 3:20) Omnipotent–God can do anything except violate his own character (Jeremiah 32:27) Incomparable (2 Samuel 7:22) Invisible (John 1:18) Unequaled (Isaiah 40:13-25) Wise; God is the very source of wisdom (James 1:5) Holy (Revelation 4:8) Impartial judge (1 Peter 1:17) Just; God exercises his judgment as promised, not out of anger (Psalm 89:14) Vengeful; God will destroy the devil and those who follow him (Deuteronomy 32:34-41) Longsuffering (Exodus 34:6-7) Loving (1 John 4:8) Merciful; God feels your pain (Lamentations 3:22-23) Truthful; God never lies (Psalm 117:2) Personal; he desires an intimate relationship with you (Hebrews 1:1-2) The last attribute is important. In the opportunity to know God personally, all of these attributes shown in scripture can be written on the pages of your heart so that you will know for yourself, exactly who God is.
