The Aurora Public Schools Department of English Language - TopicsExpress

The Aurora Public Schools Department of English Language Acquisition is always looking for new ways to connect with and educate families on the wide range of services they offer. Recently, in collaboration with RISE Colorado, the team hosted two learning opportunities for parents that saw excellent turnout and engagement. The first event, held at Sable Elementary School, targeted APS Somali families, many of whom reside in the area surrounding the school. Parents asked in-depth questions about the educational system and curriculum. The evening also featured interpretation services, dinner and childcare. Organizers, including the Colorado African Organization, designed their second event to reach Burmese families – this time at Crawford Elementary School. Presented in English, the parent involvement workshop included interpretation for Burmese, Karen, Karenni and Chin languages for the various ethnic groups of Burma. Approximately 70 parents attended the event and gained a bevy of insight about the resources the APS ELA team provides.
