The Australia I live in has people who think nothing of handing in an expensive phone they find on a bus to the authorities. The Australia I live in has people who bother to learn about other countries and their problems. The Australia I live in is the best country I would raise my children in, again and again. For every bigot and racist the country has, it has a hundred good people that take the trouble to talk to a young Indian cabbie, that bend the rules to give a new migrant a free hearing consultation and that remember a teacher as a role model four years after being in school. The siege in Sydney - no one has the right to make this Australia feel threatened. The Australia where people are already tweeting their support for their Muslim friends who are fearful of being on public transport tomorrow. #Illridewithyou
