The Avalanche U14 Girls traveled to River Falls to take part in the U14 Ponytail Tournament January 9-11, 2015. The Avalanche first took on the North East Metro Starz. It was a tight contest between the two teams. Tessa Janecke lit the lamp with an unassisted goal while the Starz added two goals in the first period. In the second period on passes from Alyssa Knauf and Brooke Teubert, Rebekah Rath found the back of the net. The two teams battled it out in the third, but the game ended in a 2-2 tie. Ally Esch recorded 7 saves and the Avalanche outshot the Starz 19-9. Later that day, the Avalanche took on a local rival U14 DC Diamonds from Madison. The Avalanche put up two goals from Cammi Ganshert (assisted by Alyssa Knauf) and Tessa Janecke (assisted by Cammi Ganshert) in the first period to DC Diamonds’ one goal. The Diamonds added a goal in the second period. The Avalanche smelled victory in the third as Anika Einbeck lit the lamp, assisted by Tessa Janecke. The Avalanche defeated the Diamonds 3-2 in a heated match-up. The Avalanche outshot the Diamonds 27-13. The defensive line did a stellar job of keeping the puck out of the zone and making smart plays while the offensive line performed well in passing the puck. In the final game of the tourney on Sunday and playing for the third place trophy (out of 6 teams), the Avalanche, unfortunately, ran out of steam against the River Falls/Baldwin Blackcats. Cammi Ganshert, assisted by Tessa Janecke, scored the lone Avalanche goal. The Avalanche fell 5-1. Goalie Ally Esch recorded 24 saves. On Sunday morning, the Avalanche U14 Girls played a pick-up game in Menomonie vs U14 Chippewa Valley Thundercats. The Avalanche dominated the entire game winning 12-2. Many of the Avalanche players scored. Earning assists were Lilah Bauer, Rebekah Rath, Tessa Janecke (2), Madeline Williams, Haley Knauf, Brooke Teubert, and Alyssa Knauf. Goalie Ally Esch recorded 17 saves.
