The BANI KANTA Hich School was very spacious with a foodball - TopicsExpress

The BANI KANTA Hich School was very spacious with a foodball ground adjuscent to the school boundary. During my stay Mr. Bhupalesh Sarkar was Head Master, a strong eble-bodied man of high repute. He used to come to school from a distance of 5 miles walking daily. The villagers had enough of respect for the school, its teachers and the students. Very few could send their boys to the school instead, the boys started helping their parents in their family business/agriculture from chieldhood. Most of the people had PANER BARAJ (betal leave)cultivation. Some were Dhopa (Washer man), Kamar (Iron smith),Kumor (earthen pot maker) and ofcourse cultivators. There were peaceful co-existence and I never seen them quarreling with each other. Most of the villagers new most of the students and as I was from outside the village staying in a lodging house at tender age they had speciaL affection for me and used to call me by name. We used to celebrate Independance Day, Eid, Saraswati Puja when all were involved to make the occasion a great success. My school friends were from adjuscent villages mostly from lower middle class families. Some used to come wearing lungies, some in dhuties. I remember, for the first time my father bought me a pair of shoes when I was in Class-IX. Similar was the conditioin of other friends. I remember, we used to go to the nearby bagans to enjoy green coconut, mangoes, jackfruit etc. In those days it was not a serious offence. At times we used to go the nearby sugar-cane field and, believe me, at a stretch we each could enjoy the sweet juice of 6/7 pieces of sugar cane each without the help of any knife or so. Our teeth was so strong. I was really memorable moments in my life. During Puja holidays when all the canals and rivers were full to the brim it was very difficult to go to my native village by foot or by bullok curt. My father used to inform me in advance that he would come to our river ghat to collect me by a boat. The boat used ply through BEGBATI river via two three canals and finally through CHITRA river. It was a journey for about 8/10 hours. Then came a day when I had to bid good-bye to my school after passing the Secondary Examination (Class-X)to find another Lodging house for Jhenaidah College (K.C.College).
