The BBCs Talking Movies puts the spotlight on Singapore cinema! This includes a segment on director Anthony Chen and notable local directors Eric Khoo and Boo Junfeng as well. Anthony has been cast alongside Boo Junfeng as part of a younger generation [of filmmakers] that seems very concerned about Singapore, its history, change, urban development, modernization and what this means in terms of loss, according to Kenneth Paul Tan of Asian Film Archive, a non-profit organisation dedicated to preserving the heritage of Singapore and Asian cinema. Tan also says, They seem to be making films that are highly researched, film that are probing, films that go beneath the surface and try to uncover the ideas that progress and nation building have submerged. Indeed, as Anthony says about ILO ILO, No one has an idea of how people [in Singapore] really live [...] whats the social fabric really like. And I think this film really does that. It opens your eyes – it opens your gaze – into this world into how do Singaporeans really live. Watch the feature by BBC on this local film which has been nominated for awards worldwide!
