The BFI has launched the first phase of its BFI Neighbourhood Cinema programme, worth up to £2m over the next four years (2013-17). The Funds main objectives are to: • grow audiences for film at a community level; • establish and develop community venues; • increase focus on and access to British and to Specialised film. The BFI Neighbourhood Cinema Fund comprises two phases: phase one, the Pilot Fund for Touring Cinema Initiatives and phase two, the Equipment Fund. The Pilot Fund for Touring Cinema Initiatives is a grants programme aimed at enabling new and existing touring cinemas to develop regular not-for-profit community cinema activity in currently underserved areas and/or to increase specialised programming in existing partner venues. The BFI has allocated up to £300,000 to support the Pilot Fund for Touring Cinema Initiatives during the period February 2014 to January 2015. The application deadline is 5pm, Friday 10 January 2014. For application guidelines and forms please visit bfi.org.uk/neighbourhood Phase two, the Equipment Fund will provide funding for community cinemas which have been running for six months or more to purchase new and upgraded equipment. The Equipment Fund is anticipated to launch in Spring 2014.
