The Babel Myth holds that monolingualism is the key to open - TopicsExpress

The Babel Myth holds that monolingualism is the key to open communication, cooperation, prosperity, and peace. Among the 10 most monolingual nations on earth, taking account only of those with at least one million speakers, are, in ascending order: Tunisia (#9), El Salvador (#6), Rwanda (#5), Burundi (#4), Cuba (#3), Haiti (#2), and North Korea (#1). How does this mesh with the notion of prosperous, peaceful monolingualism? To be fair, the other members of the top 10 are: Hungary (#10), Jamaica (#8), and South Korea (#7).
