The Baby Bonus Vs The Real Reward If in this life only we have - TopicsExpress

The Baby Bonus Vs The Real Reward If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable 1 Corinthians 15:19 I read an interesting story some time ago. In order to raise the lagging birthrate in Australia, the government was paying mothers a baby bonus of about $2,100 (i.e N428,000) for giving birth. While generally the birth of a child is a reward in itself, It interesting to know that some mothers would love to receive some financial reward from govenment for delivering their own babies. It seems to me that many of us believe that living the Christian life is like the Australian baby bonus. We expect instant compensation/ commendation from our leaders or members for every minute thing we do for God. But we also need to keep in mind that this life is not all about that those baby bonuses that we get there on earth. Those gifts, accolades, big titles/positions, awards etc are not our real reward. Our real reward comes later - after this life. As a pregnancy ends in giving way to new life, our life here eventually gives way to eternal life & we will experience this new life living in Gods presence, in perfection, & in community with all of the other Christ-followers who had gone before us. Cne of the biggest differences between those who follow Christ & those who do not is the presence of hope. Christ-followers have hope for the future that goes beyond this life. It may seem like a delayed reward, but we have the hope & certainty of heaven. Never minimize the importance of that hope! Hope is an essential part of the Christian experience & is a source of courage Beloved, May the certainty of your eternal reward bring you courage as you face every challenge in life. May you not lose your eternal reward & birthright like Esau because those temporal Australian baby bonus or morsel of meat. Watch out for the Esau syndrome: trading away God’s lifelong gift in order to satisfy a short-term appetite. You well know how Esau later regretted that impulsive act and wanted God’s blessing—but by then it was too late, tears or no tears- Hebrews 12:16-17 MSG Good morning & God bless you IJN (Amen). Màranatha!
