The Bad News: Thus far our requests for a lease extension have been DENIED. We have until the very end of December 2014... and then the beloved, historic DeWitt Theater will likely be destroyed and turned into a soulless parking lot. The Good News: The theater building, electrical and infrastructure have all been recently tested by 3rd party engineers and been found to be in great condition! What does that mean? You ask..? That means they are planning to tear down a perfectly healthy, monetarily valuable, historic building that could be collecting rent for the County for the next 1 and 1/2 years and that all the rhetoric and misinformation about the theater itself being built only as a temporary structure, riddled with asbestos, decaying infrastructure, etc... has now been proven ... thats right... PROVEN by experts to be patently WRONG INFORMATION! Intriguing News... behind the curtain: There are plenty of twist and turns to this story that will be coming out in the weeks ahead. Information we know that you as citizens, taxpayers, social media types and voters will definitely want to know. In summary... Why would people have to fight so hard to preserve history, arts and culture in Auburn? Seems downright ridiculous doesnt it? Is there an inference that we as a community dont deserve this? That we dont deserve the right or know better how to choose the shape of things to come in this community at large? If youre not upset by this yet, you should be. Sign this if you havent already.
